What it is
On your turn you can draw two cards, play a bird, or lay up to three eggs. Then your whole flock activates, left to right: every bird you’ve played so far triggers its own special ability.
How it plays
You only play six birds, on a single row instead of the three in big Wingspan. Six cards, so they need balancing: some give you food and draws, some score points. Only the first kind and you won’t win, only the second and you’ll have nothing to play them with.
The nugget
The box you’ll buy is the one that survived three days of internal takedown. In January, at Stonemaier’s company retreat, the first time all eight employees were ever in the same place, the team tore apart the pre-production copy piece by piece. Jamey Stegmaier says so himself: not the game, that part was fine, but the product, which is his job. Among the things that got cut was a final round of turns that dragged on too long at bigger tables, and @elizharg, who designed the original Wingspan, signed off on the cut.
